PWI Summer Faculty Grants
Up to or approximately 3 PWI Summer Faculty Grants will be awarded
by the Purdue Calumet Water Institute in 2007 to enable successful applicants
to work on water-related projects especially on the characterization of biochemical
and/or radioactive contaminants in water, development of sensors for on-line
monitoring and detection of low-level contaminants, and water quality.
Eligibility
The awards are for full-time, academic year faculty members who will be in residence in the following academic year.
Application
The application may not exceed four double-spaced pages and should contain the following sections: abstract,
statement of the problem, significance of the problem, a plan of research. Also include a vita of not more than two pages.
Proposals should be written in terms appropriate for reviewers who are familiar with the general area of the proposed research
but whose expertise may not specifically coincide with the topic of the proposal.
Proposals should be submitted to the Purdue Calumet Water Institute.
Evaluation
Proposals will be evaluated by a committee setup by the PWI. The committee will be requested to rank the proposals in relative
order of preference and to rate each proposal as excellent, very good, satisfactory, or unsatisfactory. Selection of proposal for
award will be based on scholarly merit, potential to attract external fund, as well as the promise of
contribution to the field and the growth of the scholar.
Application Deadline: April 20, 2007
Deliverables
- Progress report by August 31, 2007
- Proposal ready to be submitted for external funding by November 30, 2007.
Salary
A PWI summer grant recipient receives a salary of $3,500 (less taxes) for one summer month (4-weeks)
of employment which supports the work outlined in the proposal.
