NEWS RELEASE:
Free summer safety workshop for children 6/17
With school out for summer and children begging to be outdoors, Purdue University Calumet is taking action to help them ensure a safe, but fun, season.
A free, two-hour summer safety workshop for children, sponsored by Purdue University Calumet’s Office of the Dean of Students, will take place Tuesday, June 17 at 5:30 p.m. on campus in the Student Union & Library’s Calumet Falls TV Room. Representatives from the Hammond Police and Fire departments will be on hand to lead the workshop, which is intended for children 5- to-12-years-old.
Shannon Hamel, judicial administrator and student liaison for Purdue Calumet’s Office of the Dean of Students, said that the program will focus on safety outdoors and inside homes. Police and fire department representatives will present educational safety “talks” to the children.
“From the fire department perspective, the focus will be on fire safety, and from the police department, general safety tips,” Hamel said.
The workshop continues a series of parent programming events offered by the Office of the Dean of Students.
“The goal of parent programming is to provide our students, their children and all members of the university and local communities with events that can be attended as a family and are educational in nature,” Hamel said.
Parents and their children can RSVP to attend by Friday (6/13) by phoning 219/989-4141 or 800/HI-PURDUE, ext. 4141.
