Students, student organizations honored

Purdue University Calumet’s Office of Student Activities recently announced Student Organization Award Winners for the 2007-08 academic year.

Students honored and their awards were: Isabel Rodriguez of East Chicago, editor-n-chief of the campus newspaper, The Chronicle – Activities, Community Service and Excellence Award; and Otis Brewer III of Highland, president of the Society for Human Resource Management student chapter – UPS Outstanding Student Award.

Honored student organizations and the related awards were: Los Latinos – Purdue Alumni Association Calumet Most Active Organization Established Five Years or More; Finance and Accounting Club – Purdue Alumni Association Calumet Most Active Organization Established Five Years or Less; Society for Human Resource Management – Purdue Alumni Association Calumet Excellence in Service Award. Also recognized as student organization faculty/staff Advisors of the Year were Juan Casas of Los Latinos and Edward Furticella of the Finance and Accounting Club.

Additionally, the following students received “Above and Beyond” Awards: Kenneth Hartman of Crown Point, Society for Human Resource Management; Priscilla Malinich of Dyer, Finance and Accounting Club; Adriane Berry of Gary, Society for Human Resource Management; Cynthia Irions of Gary, Indiana Student Education Association; Zhong Tao Li and QiDong Shi of Hammond, the Chinese Student Association; and Amanda Winland of Valparaiso the Indiana Student Education Association.

Director of Campus Life Gloria Roldan-Schieb explained that the “Above and Beyond” Award honors students who go beyond expectations.

“(The award) is given to those who make valuable contributions and are exceptionally committed and dedicated to their organization,” she said.
