Library Art Gallery:

Artwork from Marie Cassidy’s Art and Design Classes A PUC Student Art Exhibit is now featured in the Purdue University Calumet Library, through the month of April. This colorful exhibit may be viewed on the second floor of the Student Union and Library Building. Students from Marie Cassidy’s Art and Design 113 class are introduced to drawing and sketching as a means of communication of ideas; students in her Art and Design 114 class explore a variety of media and pictorial space, and in Art and Design 203 their concentration is on art for elementary teachers. Their work represents these objectives, and is presented via various media forms in this exhibit. The artwork may be viewed on the second floor of the Student Union and Library Building during regular Library hours. For more information, contact the PUC Library Director’s Office at 219-989-2249. The exhibit highlights John Carlisle's Post Office Murals Collection. The display includes newspaper clippings, photos of post office murals, a PowerPoint presentation, and a book written by John Carlisle titled "A Simple and Vital Design: The Story of the Indiana Post Office Murals." John Carlisle… Was born on February 27, 1938 in West Frankfort, Illinois Earned a bachelor and master degrees in education from Southern Illinois University Also earned a master´s degree in humanities from Wayne State University in Michigan Earned a Ph.D. in American Culture from the University of Michigan Was a faculty member since 1972 and he served as Head of the Dept. of English and Philosophy Was the Director of Purdue Calumet´s Institute for Regional Studies Was awarded the Outstanding Administrator Award at Purdue University Calumet in 1994 Was an Associate Professor of English Was a member of the Advisory Committee of the Public Arts Preservation Committee Was elected Vice President/President Elect of the Indiana Film and Video Council Served as judge of the Senior Citizen Photo Exhibit at the Indiana State Fair Wrote a book titled "A Simple and Vital Design: The Story of the Indiana Post Office Murals."
