Biography
While a student at Purdue University Calumet Eric received the
honor of Outstanding Student in Radio/TV Studies by the
Communication and Creative Arts Department for 2003. Eric served as
Vice-President for Purdue University Calumet’s first Radio/TV Club
“Test Pattern” and a Production Assistant Intern for PBS affiliate
WYIN-TV 56 in Gary/Merrillville, Indiana. He also worked with fellow
PUC student Peter Aranda on several scripts, including the script
for the multi-award winning documentary “Chantilly Lace: The True
Story of J.P. Richardson”.
While students at Purdue University Calumet, the Aranda and Sera
team accounted for winning an unprecedented three consecutive
Broadcast Education Association Student Scriptwriting Competitions
(1st Place 2004, 3rd Place 2002 and 2003), Four Communicator Awards,
Three Golden Aurora Awards, a Telly Award, a Videographer Award, The
Katherine J. Belcher Outstanding Student/Faculty Research Award, and
The Undergraduate Research Director’s Award. Eric and Peter have
continued actively scriptwriting, and thus far (since graduation)
have completed their second feature length screenplay. They are in
the midst of marketing as well as submitting to contest and
festivals.
Eric wrapped up his undergraduate years at PUC by addressing his
graduating class as Commencement Speaker in December of 2003. He has
been featured in: Midwest Beat magazine, The Gary Post
Tribune, The Northwest Indiana Times, Hammond Press, Calumet
Press, Online Indie Filmmakers, Filmmakers.com, and Internet
Movie Database.
In February 2004 he was selected to present U.S. Senator Evan Bayh
at the Gary/Chicago airport as an outstanding example of Indiana’s
21st Century Scholars program. In spring of 2004 Eric completed his
documentary “The Flying Aarons”, about the multi-genre rock band of
the same name. The digital film made its World Premiere at
Newfoundland, Canada’s Wooden Nickel Film Fest as an official
selection. Other screenings for the documentary took place at
Indianapolis, Indiana’s Independent Filmmaker’s Showcase and
Hammond, Indiana’s Towle Community Theater. The documentary was
awarded: Two 2004 Videographer Awards, and a 2004 Telly Award. More

During the Spring/Summer of 2004 Eric volunteered at WJOB AM
Radio1230 in Hammond, Indiana as a journalist/production assistant,
and was considered by NBC New York for their Page Program.
