Biology's Best and Brightest Student Award
Qingyu (Wendy) Wang, Recipient of the Best and Brightest Student Award
(Fall 2006):

Wendy Wang is a new biology graduate student in the fall of 2006. Prior to her arrival in the U.S., she received two B.S. degrees with honors in China: B.S. in Biotechnology from Beijing Union University and B.S. in Engineering from Tsinghua University. She came here with research experiences in cancer cell gene expression and software engineering. Her immediate goal is to receive an M.S. degree in Biology with the concentration in biotechnology and bioinformatics and go on for a Ph.D. degree. In addition to taking formal courses, Wendy is now a member of the research team in genomics supervised by Prof. Charles Tseng. Her role is to scan and identifies various bacterial genomes for strain identification, a novel technology heavily dependent on genomic technology and bioinformatics skills. Wendy is the first biology graduate student who received the Best and Brightest Student Award. “She truly deserves this recognition,” said Prof. Michael Henson, Head of the Department of Biological Sciences. |
